Misfit Partners With Speedo For Swimming Tracker

Misfit Speedo Shine

Misfit has announced a partnership with Speedo for a new swimming tracker. Well, it’s not totally new; the tracker is actually a variant of the aluminum Misfit Shine. Available in a raw aluminum color, the tracker retains the original Shine’s 50m waterproofing and 6 month battery life. For a $10 premium over the standard Shine, the Speedo version is able to track laps and swim distance in addition to the device’s standard activity tracking. You may recall, we recently took a look at the Misfit Flash (the Shine’s plastic sibling) and found it to be competent activity tracker but we were not in love with the app. So we were pleased to see that while the Speedo Shine will sync your swim and activity data to the Misfit app, you will also be able to use Speedo’s Speedo Fit swim tracking app. It will be interesting to see how Misfit’s new tracker compares to the upcoming and comparably priced MOOV Now. The MOOV Now allows you to wear two trackers to gain more detailed tracking information and is able to do things such as recognize your stroke and track your stroke rate / count.

90 Second Video Review: The Misfit Flash & Link

With a price of $19.99, how can you not be tempted to try the Misfit Flash, especially with its new Link feature? The inexpensive fitness tracker is not only waterproof but also features a 6 month battery life. To add icing to the cake, it features Link, which bring additional functionality to the device, such as a remote for your camera’s shutter or a controller for your music. We took the $29.99 version of the device (which includes a wristband) for a spin this week.

The first thing that strikes you about the Flash is how small and how simple it is. The device is barely larger than the diameter of a quarter and has no visible lights or buttons. Only when you press down on it (the whole device is the button) does it light up. The design is very slick. Unfortunately, once you get past the striking visuals of the device, you are hit by how cheap all of the materials are. While this is OK for the sensor itself and the clip, it makes the wristband extremely disappointing. Given how impressive the quality is of

Misfit Adds Connectivity & Lowers Activity Tracker To $20

Misfit Flash Link

Misfit already makes some of the best looking activity trackers on the market. The company’s screen-less aluminum (Shine) and plastic (Flash) trackers have excellent software, feature a number of mounting options, are water proof, and have a 6 month battery life. So how do you make the button sized activity tracker better? Lower the price and add connected functionality! The Shine model saw a $30 price drop to $69.99, but the Flash model was where the real action was today. Existing Flash units saw a price drop of $20 to $29.99, and if you are willing to give up a $9.99 watch band, you can pick up the Flash Link (otherwise identical to its namesake) for only $20.

Hitting a $20 price point is a big deal, but not as big as the device’s new connected functionality. The front of the Flash can act as a button to trigger a list of actions. Utilizing the just released Misfit Link app (iOS, Android soon), you can program the device to do an assortment of tasks, from controlling presentation slides, to acting as a remote shutter for you cell phone camera, to turning on lights, to (later this year) connecting with IFTTT. Not bad for $20! No other activity tracker at this price point offers anything similar. As a side note, it would be great to see the durable, waterproof Flash enabled to control a GoPro!

Misfit Partners With Swarovski For Fashionable Tracker

Misfit Swarovski Shine TrackerOne of the almost universal complaints about wearable devices, especially devices for the wrist, is that they are not appealing to female customers. Misfit, who already makes some of the best looking fitness trackers on the market, has partnered with Swarovski to release a line of crystal ladened trackers. The partnership, which began over 17 months ago, has led to a crystal version of Misfit’s Shine tracker and 9 accessories. The accessories include a strappy bracelet in 3 colors, 3 different pendants, and 3 different wristbands. If you received a shiny new Misfit Shine for Christmas, don’t worry, you can attach your tracker to any of the new accessories. In case you are not familiar with Mifit’s trackers, they are small disc-shaped devices with 12 LEDs encompassing them. They are able to track overall activity, steps, calories, and sleep quality. By forgoing a display, the Misfit Shine is able to achieve a 6 month battery life.

The Swarovski partnership has also produced in a new solar powered model of the Shine. This version features a violet crystal and should result in a battery that never needs to be replaced.

Starter sets of the Swarovski / Misfit Shine range from $169.99 to $249.99, while the accessories range from $69.99 to $149.99. They are currently available for preorder from Misfit for March delivery. They will be available from Swarovski in the Spring. Head past the break for the launch video.
