L’Oreal Debuts Smart Hairbrush To Rate The Health Of Your Hair

LOreal Withings Kerastase Hair Coach Smart Connected Hair Brush hairbrush Bluetooth

At CES this week, L’Oreal showed off a new concept in hair care. The Kérastase Hair Coach is an “under $200” connected hairbrush designed to monitor the health of your hair. A bevy of sensors are used to alert you to problematic brushing habits and you are presented with a daily hair quality score. Based on your score and the expected temperature, humidity, and wind for the day, you are then presented with personalized styling and treatment tips as well as product recommendations (we are guessing they will be Kérastase products). But how does it work and do you really need this International CES Innovation Award winning gadget?

Withings Introduces Budget Oriented e-Ink Wearable

Withings Go Activity Fitness Tracker e-ink e-paper button watch

Withings has announced a new fitness tracking wearable. The new button shaped device is the cheapest tracker yet from the company, which makes everything from connected blood pressure monitors, to sleep aid machines, to activity tracking watches. The new Withings Go is approximately the size of a coin and predominately features a round e-ink display. The device automatically tracks your movement and sleep, showing your progress via a dial on the screen. The only button on the Go is hidden beneath the display; simply tap on the display to switch from the “progress” view to a watch display. The new wearable reminds us a lot of Misfit’s devices, the Jawbone Up Move, and the Fitbit Zip. The main difference though is the e-ink display, which to us is a huge improvement over the competing devices; if you have ever tried to tell the time on a Misfit Flash or Shine, you will see the appeal! The Go uses a replaceable button-cell battery to achieve an 8 month battery life and it is waterproof up to 50 meters. In fact, the device can even recognize swim strokes and automatically record when you go swimming! When Go launches later in Q1, it will list for $69.95 and will be available in 5 colors, wearable as either a clip or a watch.

Withings Adds Activité Steel Watch To Fitness Tracker Lineup

Withings Activité Activite Steel smartwatch fitness tracker

Last year, connected device maker Withings was one of the first companies to introduce a traditional looking watch with integrated activity tracking. The Swiss-made Activité (now called Activité Saphir) tracked movement, sleep patterns, and could even sense if you were swimming. A small inset dial would display your progress towards your movement goals and you could access deeper data through your smartphone. Unfortunately the price of the original Activité was as stunning as its looks – $450. Realizing that not everyone was looking to spend that type of money on a fitness tracking watch, Withings explored using different material to create a more accessible wearable device.

Earlier this year the company introduced the more budget friendly Activité Pop. The brightly colored, PVD coated device was at feature parity with its more expensive sibling but was constructed of cheaper materials and wasn’t billed as being “Swiss made.” Since brightly colors watches aren’t for everyone though, Withings has now added the stainless Activité Steel to their watch lineup.

The new device is identical to the (somewhat) budget friendly Activité Pop, except Withings has traded out the bright colors for polished metal an an understated black watch face. The $170 Activité Steel features a 8 month battery life, a face constructed from mineral glass, and a TPSiV Thermoplastic Elastomer (silicon) band. It is compatible with iOS and Android and starts shipping this week.

Withing’s Analog Fitness Tracker Now For Less

Withings Activite Pop

How do you feel about saving $300 on a device and not loosing any functionality? Well, then Withings’ Activité Pop is for you. Functionally identical to its $450 brother, the $150 Activité Pop sheds the leather band and high-end black or white watch faces for silicone and colors (sand, black, and blue). Like the original, the tracker is practically indistinguishable from a traditional time piece. The analog dial and appropriately sized face make the Activité family look like plain old analog watch. The only giveaway is a smaller second dial that shows your progress towards your daily activity goal. Inside, the device couldn’t be more different from your traditional analog watch. Activité monitors your sleeping, swimming, running, and walking and has a vibrating alarm to gently wake you. It connects to your phone via Bluetooth 4.0 and automatically adjusts to time changes. Perhaps the killer feature that will drive the Activité Pop onto users’ wrists is an astonishing 8 month battery life through a traditional, replaceable watch battery. That combined with an understated design and reasonable price could mean that the Activité Pop has was it takes to be a break out hit for Withings. Head past the break for Withings’ launch video:
