How I Found Perfect Fitting Jeans With The Touch Of A Button: LikeAGlove

LikeAGlove connected leggings jeans pants size fit recomendation denim review

Let me start this review of LikeAGlove by saying, I hate shopping for jeans!

Ask any woman and they will tell you how impossible it is to find a perfect pair of jeans. I would equate it to finding a needle in a haystack, but perhaps even more difficult. Between inconsistent sizing and cuts, few activities make you feel worse about your body. Over the years I have found myself, along with my friends, exploring the Barney’s denim bar and countless other stores on a mission to find the perfect pair.

This Fall I finally threw my arms up and gave up. I was looking for my first post-pregnancy pair of jeans while mentally struggling with the reality of my body shape and weight not being my ideal. I simply could not cope with one more thing making me feel worse about my body image. This led me to deciding to try a new wearable device called LikeAGlove.

2015 Gift Guide: Fashion Tech

2015 Gift Guide Best Fashion Tech

Fashion tech promises to seamlessly integrate technology into clothing. It has the potential to allow garments to respond to the surrounding environment, to better express one’s style, and to be simpler and more ecological to manufacture; fashion technology feels like the exciting next frontier of clothing. But it is an uphill battle, both from a technology and perception standpoint. After years of hiding our phones away in our pockets, smartwatches are slowing introducing the public to the idea of wearing a piece of technology. The idea is still fairly foreign though and it is an uphill battle to overcome the ‘nerdy’ image people associate with any kind of wearable technology. Additionally, batteries and electronics need to reach milestones of miniaturization, durability, and longevity for the true potential of fashion and technology to be realized. That said, we have seen a lot of exciting ideas in fashion tech this year. Whether it is Rebecca Street’s LED dress or Chromat’s breathing sports bra, most of the current fashion tech concepts are still relegated to the runway…but not all of them. In this gift guide we take a look at some of our favorite fashion tech that you can own!

These Smart Leggings Size You For Perfect Fitting Jeans

Like A Glove Leggings LikeAGlove

The current state of online clothes shopping is frustrating. With all the slight variations of fit and shaping, it necessitates you to order at least 2 sizes and hope that maybe one of them might work. Last year we reported on a startup, named LikeAGlove, developing smart garments that could take your measurements and relay the information to an app, which in turn would find you perfect fitting clothes. The company had even already developed a database of clothing for different fits. Well, it seem LikeAGlove is now ready to ship their first product – smart leggings. Simply wear the leggings while standing still for a few seconds and the garment measures your waist, thighs, high and low hips, and inseam. The information is communicated instantly to a companion app, which then displays a selection of jeans that will best fit your body type. As you select a pair of jeans, the app will also display how well it matches your various measurements. The leggings are available now for preorder and cost $40 (reduced from the regular price of <gasp> $100); they will ship Q1 2016.

If you have ever tried to order clothes online, you know how amazing this concept is! We are curious about the pricing though; $100 is a lot. You can pay a lot of return shipping fees before you break even, especially since most people don’t buy more than a couple of nice pairs of jeans a year. It would have been amazing if LikeAGlove could have positioned their product as a marketing vehicle for various clothing labels and collected revenue from offering their garments in the app.

We are excited to see that LikeAGlove has been able to move forward to the point of launching their product. We can’t to get our hands on it, test it out, and see how much depth their is to their online database of jeans. LikeAGlove had originally demoed a top designed to help you find a perfect dress; it was long enough to collect hip and waist information. While leggings make a lot of sense as an initial product, we hope that the company also releases the top. Head past the break to see how the smart leggings work:

LikeAGlove Smart Clothing Finds Your Perfect Fit

LikeAGlove Measures Your Body

Yesterday at DEMO Fall 2014, startup LikeAGlove introduced a new concept in smart clothing. The garments are designed to generate your measurements while the app locates clothes that will fit you perfectly. LikeAGlove produces fitted, stretchy spandex clothing that that has conductive fibers woven into the material. These fibers connect to a small wireless controller on the garment that deciphers yours measurements and transmits them to your mobile device. The whole process apparently takes only a few seconds. LikeAGlove is currently planning on producing a long camisole, socks, shirt, and leggings (used for pants). Designed to make online shopping easier and less frustrating, the company has already created a database of top brands and their sizing specs. Simply wear the fiber-embedded garment for a few second, save your measurements, and utilize the app’s search engine to find clothes in sizes that correctly fit you. LikeAGlove describes the product as “very affordable” and ready to be produced in large quantities. Currently the company is deciding whether to sell directly to the consumer or utilize a strategic manufacturing and retail partner. Head past the break for a video:
