Both OMsignal and Hexoskin Expand Smartshirt’s Software Offerings

OMsignal Hexoskin Smart Software Update Indiegogo OMrun OMbra Strava Nike Plus Runkeeper MapMyRuns

We are well past a year since the launch of both Hexoskin’s and OMsignal’s smartshirts. These compression shirts (and now sports bra) monitor everything from breathing, to heart rate, to movement. They present the information as raw data and as a summary of fitness levels. At CES this year, both companies took advantage of the venue to announce expanded software offerings. OMsignal introduced the new OMrun platform – a very logic next step for the company, especially with the launch of the OMbra. OMrun looks to offer a suite of data that is especially tailored to helping runners understand an improve their performance. Among the new metrics are cadence, distance, Running Economy (how much O2 you need to travel a distance), and Breathing Rhythm (the number of footsteps per breath in or out). Along with the new focus on running, OMsignal has added new services to connect with, including Runkeeper, Strava, and Nike+. OMrun will launch this spring.

2015 Gift Guide: Wearables For Kids

2015 Gift Guide Best Wearables For Kids

Wearable tech is not incredibly kid friendly. The devices tend to be expensive, not very durable, and, frankly, not appropriate for most 8 year olds. As much as they might want an Apple Watch or Fossil Q Founder, these are way overkill for their needs – and let’s not forget the untimely end a quick jump in a pool could cause the device. But wearables are new and exciting, so it is not surprising that a kid you know might want one. The good news is that there are wearables on the market designed especially for children. Whether you are looking to get them a wearable that can communicate with friends, one to make sure they stay active throughout the day, or simply something to trigger an interest in STEM, there are a variety of devices for you to gift the kid in your life!

Hexoskin Launches Shirt For Kids

Hexoskin JuniorFor the obsessive parent, or overachieving youth, Hexoskin has announced the launch of a junior sized version of their activity monitoring shirt. If you have a child that demands to know what their VO2 Max is, then this is the device for you (look how happy the kid in the press photo looks). Just like the adult version, the Hexoskin Junior monitors heart rate variability, heart rate recovery, breathing volume, and breathing rate in addition to steps, calories, and sleep. The shirt has wires integrated into the fabric that monitor your vital information and relay it to a small box on the shirt. The box can either store the information for later or stream it via Bluetooth 4.0 to your mobile device. Hexoskin Junior is on sale. You can purchase it as a starter kit for $379 that includes everything you need or if you already have a Hexoskin “box” you can purchase the shirt for $149.

Hexoskin Releases Smart Shirt To Monitor Your Workouts

Hexoskin

This week, Hexoskin announced the availability of their “smart shirt.” Originally funded on crowd-funding website Indiegogo, the $400 device is capable of providing information about heart-rate, breathing, activity, and sleeping. The Hexoskin shirt joins what is quickly becoming a crowded market segment, with products from Ralph Lauren and OMsignal. It appears that Hexoskin is trying to separate itself from the competition though with a more professional tool set. The iOS and Android app are able to track multiple shirts at once and the device is able to calculate things such as VO2max (generally regarded as a key base fitness measurement) and provide live raw data (which allows you to do such things as view your ECG on your phone). As with other “smart shirts”, the Hexoskin depends on a tight fit to get accurate measurements, so think carefully about your purchase if you don’t like to show off your body.
