The Misfit Flash Gets Bedazzled By BaubleBar For The Holidays

The Misfit Flash Gets Bedazzled By BaubleBar For The Holidays Target Helena Necklace Bracelet

Misfit’s tiny, plastic Flash fitness tracker became a very compelling option this year thanks to a price drop and the ability to control connected devices. The only problem…no style. The Flash is really plain, lacking the elegance and polish of its more expensive sibling, the Misfit Shine (not to mention the Swarovski Shine). Headed into the holidays, Misfit has decided to give its budget friendly activity tracker a budget friendly makeover. Through a partnership with BaubleBar (a large retailer of costume fashion jewelry), Misfit is releasing the Helena Necklace and Bracelet. Both the necklace and bracelet feature an identical gold / diamond-ish locket to hold the Flash. While the locket isn’t understated, it isn’t bad looking (in the photos at least); it has a vintage / antique store vibe. Depending on whether you choose the necklace or bracelet, it comes with a 32 inch or 6 inch chain accordingly. The Helena Necklace and Bracelet will go on sale November 29th, exclusively at Target for $70. Oh, did we mention that price also includes the Misfit Flash tracker (in hot pink, of course) and a plastic, waterproof wristband and clip?! Not bad.

Target seems to be the go-to source for bedazzled fitness trackers. Our guess would be that it has something to do with a relatively high female customer base. Besides being the exclusive retailer of the BaubleBar version of the Misfit Flash, they also have exclusive rights to the jewelry-like metal versions of the VivoFit. While the execution isn’t always great, I think dressing up these devices makes them seem softer, less techie, and like they fit better into one’s life. We just wish they would take the approach of Bellabeat’s Leaf and design a device from the ground up for a non-tech-oriented audience.

90 Second Video Review: The Misfit Flash & Link

With a price of $19.99, how can you not be tempted to try the Misfit Flash, especially with its new Link feature? The inexpensive fitness tracker is not only waterproof but also features a 6 month battery life. To add icing to the cake, it features Link, which bring additional functionality to the device, such as a remote for your camera’s shutter or a controller for your music. We took the $29.99 version of the device (which includes a wristband) for a spin this week.

The first thing that strikes you about the Flash is how small and how simple it is. The device is barely larger than the diameter of a quarter and has no visible lights or buttons. Only when you press down on it (the whole device is the button) does it light up. The design is very slick. Unfortunately, once you get past the striking visuals of the device, you are hit by how cheap all of the materials are. While this is OK for the sensor itself and the clip, it makes the wristband extremely disappointing. Given how impressive the quality is of

Misfit Adds Connectivity & Lowers Activity Tracker To $20

Misfit Flash Link

Misfit already makes some of the best looking activity trackers on the market. The company’s screen-less aluminum (Shine) and plastic (Flash) trackers have excellent software, feature a number of mounting options, are water proof, and have a 6 month battery life. So how do you make the button sized activity tracker better? Lower the price and add connected functionality! The Shine model saw a $30 price drop to $69.99, but the Flash model was where the real action was today. Existing Flash units saw a price drop of $20 to $29.99, and if you are willing to give up a $9.99 watch band, you can pick up the Flash Link (otherwise identical to its namesake) for only $20.

Hitting a $20 price point is a big deal, but not as big as the device’s new connected functionality. The front of the Flash can act as a button to trigger a list of actions. Utilizing the just released Misfit Link app (iOS, Android soon), you can program the device to do an assortment of tasks, from controlling presentation slides, to acting as a remote shutter for you cell phone camera, to turning on lights, to (later this year) connecting with IFTTT. Not bad for $20! No other activity tracker at this price point offers anything similar. As a side note, it would be great to see the durable, waterproof Flash enabled to control a GoPro!
