In 2011, Nike released the super-limited-edition Air Mag for sale on eBay. The shoe was one of the gee-wiz items Marty encounters in the future in Back To The Future 2 (we are still waiting for the hoverboard). The 2011 release of the shoe was lacking one key feature from the movie: self-tying laces; that might soon change. During an appearance for the Jordan Brand’s Flight Lab in New Orleans, Nike designer Tinker Hatfield was asked about whether we would see self-tying laces in 2015.
Hatfield responded, “Are we gonna see power laces in 2015? To that, I say YES!” Hopefully Hatfield is not playing us the fool and having a good laugh. If Nike does release a self lacing shoe in 2015, it remains to be seen if it will be in a new version of the Air Mag, but it would line up with the movie perfectly.
