Everything You Need To Know About Nike’s HyperAdapt Sneaker Launch

HyperAdapt 1 Black Colorway How Buy Nike self lacing Grey White

If you weren’t lucky enough to win one of Nike’s functional reproductions of the self-lacing Mag sneaker from Back To The Future, don’t fret; something arguably more exciting is launching this week. Sure, the Mags were amazing from a retro-cool perspective, but on December 1st Nike is launching the first mass produced self-lacing sneaker. Named HyperAdapt 1.0, the sneakers represent the future of where the footwear giant believes their industry is headed.

While the easiest way to describe the HyperAdapt 1.0 is “self lacing,” Nike isn’t a big fan of the term and favors referring to the tech as “adaptive fit.” That likely comes from the fact that the HyperAdapt is a direct descendant of the Mag. When the Mag was original created for Back To The Future 2, the designers at Nike wanted to create a futuristic vision of a better athletic sneaker, something that would come alive and sense you, adjusting to the shape of your foot. In other words, adapt to you. After the release of Back To The Future 2, there was a huge outpouring by fans for Nike to create an actual Mag and bring it to market. As the years passed, the requests kept coming in and at a certain point teams within Nike started to brainstorm whether such technology could actually be created and designed to fit within a shoe. After nearly three decades of discussions and 11 years of R&D, the HyperAdapt 1.0 became a reality. The shoes are truly the Nike Mag reimagined for today.

Snapchat Spectacles Launch Via Popup Snapbot Vending Machines

Snap Snapchat Spectacles Sunglasses Blogging Video Snapbot

A few weeks ago Snapchat announced that the company was going to transition from simply being an app/service to a technology company. The first part of the transition was rebranding the company as Snap and the second part was the introduction a new piece of wearable tech. The company’s first foray into the wearable space is a pair of glasses, simply called Spectacles. Think of them as something in between Google Glass and a life-blogging device, neither of which have faired very well in the market place. The failure of both of those devices likely has something to do with them being wearable recorders, which they also have in common with Spectacles. When we originally saw the announcement of Snapchat’s Spectacles, to us they seemed more like a gag product than something people would actually wait in line to spend $130 on. But apparently we were very wrong. Last week popup vending machines featuring the Spectacles, called Snapbots, began appearing, drawing tremendous lines. We never would have guessed it but Snap’s Spectacles seem to be a hit, for at least the 6 days out from launch. In fact, the connected glasses are reselling for as much as $5000 on eBay. But what exactly are they?

Why Fitbit Sales Lag Even As Company Introduces New Models

fitbit stock slump earnings flex 2 charge alta quarter

Over the past week, Fitbit’s (FIT) stock has lost over 30% of it’s value. The plunge happened at the end of last week after the fitness tracker company missed earnings estimates and tempered expectations for the Holidays. In the days since, shares of Fitbit have been unable to bounce back. While only missing estimated revenue by $3 Million, year-over-year income fell by almost 43%. This is despite introducing new models and aligning with both Kohl’s and Vera Wang. Even worse, for the vital Holiday quarter Fitbit is projecting revenue of $725 Million to $750 Million versus expectations of $925 Million. So what exactly is happening with Fitbit and what does this mean for the larger wearable market?

Today Is Your Last Chance To Enter To Win Nike Mag Sneakers

Nike Mag self adaptive lacing 2016 raffle back future

Today is your last day to enter for a chance to own Nike’s self lacing Mag sneakers. Based on the iconic shoes from Back To The Future 2, Nike last week announced the availability of the footwear. Like the 2011 release of the non-self-lacing version, the shoe is extremely limited in quantity; only 89 pairs are being made available. Last year, when the shoes were originally announced, it was stated they would be released via auction in Spring 2016. Nike not only missed their Spring release date, but the shoes also aren’t available via auction. For most of us though, that isn’t necessarily bad news. Unless you had a tremendous amount of money to drop on a pair of sneakers (which you more than likely would never risk wearing), there was no chance you would own a pair. At some point over the past 12 months Nike had a change of heart and instead decided to raffle the shoes off. Virtual raffle tickets can be purchased from $10 a piece from Nike and all proceeds go to the Michael J. Fox Foundation. Even if you don’t win, you are helping a fantastic nonprofit in their efforts to cure Parkinson’s. Today is the last day to enter to win an elusive Nike Mag; the drawing closes at 11:59pm ET. If you have been on the fence about entering or have been thinking about buying some additional tickets, to help encourage you the Michael J. Fox foundation will match dollar-to-dollar all donations today!

Self Lacing Nike Mags From Back To The Future 2 Launching October 4

nike mag self lacing sneaker release back to the future 2015 2016

While originally announced to be released this past Spring, all signs are pointing to the self lacing Nike Mag finally debuting tomorrow, October 4th. The sneakers were first teased almost a year ago, on Back To The Future Day, when Nike released a video of Michael J. Fox trying on a pair of the shoes. Today they were teased again, this time on the Nike SNKR app. Nearly identical to the futuristic footwear featured in the movie, the Mags have LED lighting and, most importantly, laces which automatically tighten around your foot. Nike has been working on the tech for some time and even plan to release a more commercial sneaker featuring the tech by the end of the year.

Microsoft Suspends Development of Microsoft Band 3 UPDATED

Microsoft Band 2 discontinued wearable axed fitness tracker developer

UPDATED: According to ZDNet, Microsoft has sold through their remaining Band 2 inventory and has removed it from their online store. Also, the company has taken down the development kit for the Microsoft Band. We would expect the info page about the wearable to follow suit and soon be removed from the Microsoft website. While we knew Microsoft didn’t have a lot of faith left towards their activity tracker, it is surprising that the company planned to completely discontinue selling the Band when they just rebranded their health app from the generic “Microsoft Health” to the very product specific “Microsoft Band.”

Microsoft has reportedly ceased development of a third generation of its Microsoft Band. According to ZDNet, a few weeks ago the company disbanded a team working to port the Windows 10 platform to the wearable. Currently, versions 1 and 2 of the Microsoft Band run custom firmware. The move isn’t entirely surprising as Microsoft struggles to find an audience for Windows Mobile devices. In fact, MSPoweruser.com is reporting that Microsoft is pulling Windows Phones from company stores and WinBeta cites an anonymous employee as stating that the Lumia line of phones will be killed off by the end of the year. Since the Microsoft Band is designed primarily to interact with a Windows Mobile phone (non-Windows platforms are limited to a restricted feature set), with its ecosystem dwindling there is little logic in continuing to invest in Microsoft Band development. The software giant will continue to sell the Microsoft Band 2 at a discounted price of $175. Microsoft Health, the cross-platform cloud based health and fitness hub that the Band was designed to interact with, will continue to exist and, in fact, Microsoft is continuing to emphasize the service. But in a bizarre move the app has been renamed “Microsoft Band.”
