Leoht Launching “Tech” Handbag

Leoht Tote

If the $5,000 Ricky Bag With Light is a little steep for you, but you are looking for a leather purse to charge your devices, Leoht’s “tech” handbag might be what you are looking for. While it is definitely lacking the iconic style of Ralph Lauren’s Ricky Bag, it makes up for it with a couple of key features. First, price. Loeht’s bag should cost between $300 and $650 (depending on style and battery size) when it hits Kickstarter in the coming months. Second, one of the biggest shortcomings we noted about the Ricky Bag is that there was no wireless / inductive charging ability. You had to connect a USB cord to the purse. Leoht’s bags will come with a special charging plate so all you need to do is set the bag down on it to refill the battery. This is all great news! Unfortunately there are a few downsides though. The tote version of the handbag weighs almost 3 pounds with nothing in it. Depending on how much you have to haul your bag around during the day, that could end up being very unpleasant, especially once you add your laptop, papers, and a lunch. Also, the elegance of the automatic light on the Ricky is abandoned for a switched light that you have to turn on and off whenever you use it. Leoht expects to release a tote and hobo version of their bag when sales start on Kickstarter.

Ralph Lauren Announces Ricky Bag With Phone Charger

Ralph Lauren Ricky With Light USB

Ralph Lauren has announced a new version of their iconic Ricky Bag which features an integrated battery. The battery is designed to power a light that automatically turns on or off when you lift a flap on the inside of the purse. Working much like the magical light inside of a refrigerator, the light turns on to help you find things lost in the clutter of your bag. The battery also allows you to use an USB cord to charge your phone. According to Ralph Lauren, the bag took 8 months to develop. No word on how long the battery will keep your phone charged, but it has enough juice to run the light for 4 to 5 months. To recharge the battery, you will have to connect it to your computer’s USB port. Given that Ralph Lauren partnered with OMsignal on their smart shirt, we wish the company would have reached out to Everpurse about using their charging mat technology. The bag will have extremely limited availability before the Holidays at Ralph Lauren’s flagship stores. It will become more widely available in February 2015. Having the Ralph Lauren’s latest and greatest will cost you $5,000, a significant premium over the $3,500 standard Ricky Bag. As far as colors, as Mr. Lauren put it (in reference to Henry Ford), “You can have it in any color you want, as long as it’s black.” Head past the break for a video.

Everpurse Announces The Re-release Of Original Design

everpurseToday, Everpurse announced it is returning to Kickstarter to launch a new version of the company’s original smartphone charging clutch. In 2012, Everpurse successfully funded a Kickstarter to produce a wirelessly charging leather purse capable of keeping your smartphone charged all day. While over doubling their original funding goals, the original Everpurse saw several shipping and design delays and was met with mixed reviews.

The 2015 version of the Everpurse aims to correct those issues with a larger purse, improved charging plate, interchangeable phone docks, and longer battery life.  It will feature either a 48 or 96 hour battery, a purse that is 10% larger, and a charging mat that displays charge status and works internationally. This time, the company has already spent a year finalizing design and solving engineering issues. It is turning to Kickstarter to start manufacturing and expects to be able to deliver the purses long before the 2014 holidays. Head past the break for a video about the new purse.

Everpurse Announces New Mini Clutch

Everpurse Mini

Everpurse has announced the successor to it’s original phone charging clutch.  The new Mini does away with one of the gee-wiz features of the original Kickstarter-backed bag, a cordless charging mat.  Instead, the new hard sided clutch’s latch doubles as a USB plug, requiring you to plug the purse/case directly into a USB charger.  While the charging mechanism seems like a solid step backwards, the reduced price and built-in wallet will likely bring in a new audience.  Through May 6 it is available for preorder at a $31 discount and is only available for the iPhone 5/5s.  It is scheduled to ship during summer of 2014, just a few short months before being outdated as the iPhone is rumored to shift to a larger size.
