BauBax Is The Swiss Army Knife Of Jackets

BauBax Swiss Army Knife Travel Jacket Kickstarter

Like most kids, we were obsessed with Swiss Army knives. They seemed to offer every tool we could possibly imagine needing, be it a knife, a thermometer, or a spork. We, therefore, were extremely excited when we came across the BauBax jackets and sweatshirt. BauBax is the Swiss Army knife of outerwear, offering 15 features ranging from an iPad pocket, to built in gloves, to an integrated inflatable neck pillow. Designed mainly as a travel jacket, BauBax is offering 4 styles for both men and women: a hooded windbreaker and sweatshirt, and a blazer and bomber jacket with detachable hoods.

If this sounds intriguing, you are not alone. BauBax has raised over $6.5 million on Kickstarter thus far and is officially the most funded clothing project in the history of crowdfunding. Not too shabby! There are 6 days left on the Kickstarter and the jackets cost between $129 and $149 depending on the style. BauBax is currently promising a November 2015 delivery for the backers; such a tight delivery window is a bit worrying though. Delivering a product on time, especially for items that exceeded expected popularity (BauBax was hoping to raise $20,000), seems to be a universal challenge for crowdfunded projects. Hopefully they have someone helping them navigate the complex garment industry and deliver the jackets in time for the Holidays!

Trusst Uses 3D Printers To Design A New Type Of Bra

Trusst Lingerie Bra 3D Printed Support

Trusst Lingerie has designed a new type of bra aimed at offering better support to bustier women. The technology behind the bra comes from the engineering world; the two women behind the project looked at the trusses that support bridges from underneath and sought to apply the same concept to a bra. Their design relies on the ribcage for support instead of the shoulders. The company, currently Kickstarting their first production run, relied heavily on MakerBot 3D printers to prototype and design the support for the undergarment. The entire support structure was modeled on a computer and then printed. Using the 3D printer, they were able to quickly and inexpensively tweak the design and test it with a wide variety of body shapes. It is exciting to see the fashion industry find new, out-of-the-box, and unexpected uses for 3D printers, creating items that would not have been possible only a few years ago.

Crowdsource Watch: TZOA Wearable Air Monitor

TZOA Environmental TrackerTZOA is a wearable device designed to track how clean the air around you really is. The sensor is designed to either be worn or attached to your backpack or purse. It measures air quality, UV levels, light, temperature, and humidity. The company views it as a fitness tracker but for the world around us. TZOA keeps track of your exposure, both indoors and out, to poor air quality and informs you when you need to seek some fresh air. TZOA is able to associate its readings with where you are and crowdsource the data to assemble a map of the air quality around you. The idea is to build environmental knowledge and help the user to understand the environment around us that is not always visible or tangible. By creating this understanding, the creators of TZOA hope to address the mental disconnect they feel spurs behaviors leading to climate change. We are all for anything that helps us lead a healthier life and breath a little easier! The device is almost halfway to meeting its fundraising gal on Kickstarter with 15 more days left. It is estimated to ship in August of 2015.

Everpurse Announces New Mini Clutch

Everpurse Mini

Everpurse has announced the successor to it’s original phone charging clutch.  The new Mini does away with one of the gee-wiz features of the original Kickstarter-backed bag, a cordless charging mat.  Instead, the new hard sided clutch’s latch doubles as a USB plug, requiring you to plug the purse/case directly into a USB charger.  While the charging mechanism seems like a solid step backwards, the reduced price and built-in wallet will likely bring in a new audience.  Through May 6 it is available for preorder at a $31 discount and is only available for the iPhone 5/5s.  It is scheduled to ship during summer of 2014, just a few short months before being outdated as the iPhone is rumored to shift to a larger size.

Crowdsource Watch: Mi.Mu Gloves

Mi.Mu Glove

Created with the help of Imogen Heap, the Mi.Mu gloves turns gestures into music.  The project is currently seeking funding on Kickstarter and has yet to reach it’s goal with only a few days left. The gloves work by capturing movements and hand gestures with various sensors.  That information is then communicated wirelessly to a computer that runs specially created software.  The software then maps the different movements or combination of movements to different tasks, from generating music to controlling faders and loops.  Head past the break for the video to find out more.
